The Sixth Legion (Leg. VI) was considered one of the toughest, most brutal legions in the army. Stationed in Palestine, it had the responsibility of keeping control of the rebellious local population which bristled under the Roman boot.
I think it may have been one of the legions which was engaged in the capture of the Jewish fortress of Masada c. AD 66.
It is said that @ 12,000 Jewish prisoners of war were brought to Rome by Vespasian where they later helped build the Flavian Amphitheater (Colosseum).
